Air conditioning is something that you rely on heavily during the hot and humid summer months here in Texas. Without a properly functioning AC unit, you will be miserable in your home, which should be a haven in the heat. The best thing to do to avoid this is have your AC unit checked before it gets too hot and see if you possibly need an AC replacement.
Here are some signs that you need an AC replacement, or at minimum an inspection:
- High Energy Bills– It might not just be inflation that is causing your energy bills to go up. As AC units age, their energy efficiency decreases. If you notice that your energy bills have significantly increased, it is at least worth having your AC unit inspected to see if there are any problems or if it needs to be replaced.
- Loud Noises– If your AC unit is making loud noises, such as grinding, rattling, or squealing, then you will likely need an AC replacement. These noises are all indicators that your AC unit’s lifespan is near the end.
- Humidity and Heat in Your Home– These are both pretty obvious signs that your AC unit is not working properly. You should at least have your unit inspected soon before the humidity can cause mold in your home, but be prepared for the possibility that it needs replacing.
- Age of AC Unit– Air conditioners should last about 15 to 20 years with proper installation. If your unit is in that age range, you should at least have an inspection, but may need an AC replacement.
